10 Keys To Jesus' Leadership – The Greatest Leader Who Ever Lived
"For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." — Mark 10:45
KEY 1 – JESUS LED BY SERVING, NOT BY STATUS
John 13:4-5 (AMP)
4 got up from supper, took off His [outer] robe, and taking a [servant's] towel, He tied it around His waist. 5 Then He poured water into the basin and began washing the disciples' feet and wiping them with the towel which was tied around His waist.
John 13:14-15 (AMP)
14 So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet as well. 15 For I gave you [this as] an example, so that you should do [in turn] as I did to you.
Leadership Principle
- Your position may give you authority, but your service gives you influence.
KEY 2 – JESUS DEVELOPED PEOPLE, NOT JUST PROGRAMS
Mark 3:13-14 (AMP)
13 He went up on the hillside and called those whom He Himself wanted and chose; and they came to Him. 14 And He appointed twelve [disciples], so that they would be with Him [for instruction] and so that He could send them out to preach [the gospel as apostles—that is, as His special messengers, personally chosen representatives],
Leadership Principle
- Don't just build the ministry. Build the ministers.
- A leader's greatest accomplishment isn't what they can do.
- It's what they can teach someone else to do.
KEY 3 – JESUS KNEW HOW TO DELEGATE
John 6:10-11 (AMP)
10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down [to eat]." Now [the ground] there was [covered with] an abundance of grass, so the men sat down, about [a]5,000 in number. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; the same also with the fish, as much as they wanted.
Leadership Principle
- If you have to do everything, you haven't built a team—you've built a dependency.
KEY 4 – JESUS DIDN'T LET CRISIS CONTROL HIM
Mark 4:35-41 (AMP)
36 So leaving the crowd, they took Him with them, just as He was, in the boat. And other boats were with Him. 37 And a fierce windstorm began to blow, and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already being swamped. 38 But Jesus was in the stern, asleep [with His head] on the [sailor's leather] cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die?" 39 And He got up and [sternly] rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Hush, be still (muzzled)!" And the wind died down [as if it had grown weary] and there was [at once] a great calm [a perfect peacefulness]. 40 Jesus said to them, "Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith and confidence [in Me]?"
Leadership Principle
- A leader's emotional temperature affects the entire organization.
KEY 5 – JESUS KNEW WHEN TO SAY NO
Luke 5:15-16 (AMP)
15 But the news about Him was spreading farther, and large crowds kept gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their illnesses. 16 But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray [in seclusion].
Leadership Principle
- If everything is important than nothing is important
KEY 6 – JESUS LED FROM A PLACE OF PRAYER
Luke 6:12-13 (AMP)
12 Now at this time Jesus went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God. 13 When day came, He called His disciples and selected twelve of them, whom He also named apostles (special messengers, personally chosen representatives):
Leadership Principle
- Before Jesus made decisions publicly, He processed them privately with the Father.
KEY 7 – JESUS CORRECTED PEOPLE WITHOUT DESTROYING THEM
Luke 22:31-32 (AMP)
31 "Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has demanded permission to sift [all of] you like grain; 32 but I have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [and confidence in Me] may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again [to Me], strengthen and support your brothers [in the faith]."
John 21:15-17 (AMP)
15 So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with total commitment and devotion]?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]." Jesus said to him, "Feed My lambs." 16 Again He said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with total commitment and devotion]?" Leadership Principle
- Correction should restore people, not simply punish them.
KEY 8 – JESUS COULD HANDLE PEOPLE WHO DISAGREED WITH HIM
Matthew 22:17-22 (AMP)
17 Tell us then, what do You think? Is it permissible [according to Jewish law and tradition] to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?" 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, asked, "Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin used for the poll-tax." And they brought Him a denarius [a day's wage]. 20 And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" 21 They said, "[The Emperor Tiberius] Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." 22 When they heard this, they were caught off guard, and they left Him and went away.
Leadership Principle
- You cannot lead effectively if you need everybody to like you.
- Jesus never allowed people's opinions to redefine His assignment.
KEY 9 – JESUS LED WITH VISION
Matthew 28:19-20 (AMP)
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age."
Leadership Principle
- If your vision dies when you leave the room, you didn't build a movement—you built a moment.
- Jesus prepared His disciples to carry the mission without His physical presence.
KEY 10 – JESUS FINISHED WHAT HE STARTED
Leadership Principle
- Great leaders don't just start well. They finish well.
- Vision requires endurance.
- Calling requires endurance.
- Leadership requires endurance.
