The Blueprint to Prosperity
Positioned to Prosper – Part 3
What Does It Mean to Prosper?
The word "prosper" in the Greek literally means "to help on the road" or "succeed in reaching." It means to advance, make progress, succeed, or be profitable.
It is very clear from this definition that prosperity is more than money and the accumulation of wealth, but rather an ongoing state of success that touches every area of our lives. It means to have nothing missing and nothing lacking. You can have wealth with no health and you are not prosperous.
Eight Keys to Biblical Prosperity
#1 We Must Seek Him
2 Chronicles 26:5 (AMP)
He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought (inquired of, longing for) the Lord, God caused him to prosper.
Matthew 6:33 (AMP)
But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.
Jeremiah 10:21 (AMP)
For the shepherds [of the people] have become [like brutes,] irrational and stupid, and have not searched for the Lord or asked about Him or realized their need for Him; therefore they have not been wise and have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.
#2 We Must Magnify Him
Psalm 35:27 (AMP)
Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication and want what is right for me; Let them say continually, "Let the Lord be magnified, who delights and takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."
What does God delight in? The prosperity of His people. I must ask you the question, believer: what's left out of "all"?
#3 We Must Understand It's a Part of His Plan
Jeremiah 29:11 (NASB)
For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
God will prosper you to the level of your call. You will prosper to the level of your purpose. If the things you desire will help you fulfill the purpose of God for your life, you will have it.
#4 We Must Recognize It's According to Your Purpose
Matthew 25:14-15 (AMP) – Parable of the Talents
For it is just like a man who was about to take a journey, and he called his servants together and entrusted them with his possessions. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and then he went on his journey.
#5 We Must Develop Our Soul
3 John 2 (AMP)
Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].
#6 We Must Live a Life of Obedience
Deuteronomy 29:9 (AMP)
So keep the words of this covenant and obey them, so that you may prosper and be successful in everything that you do.
#7 We Must Be Servants
Job 36:11 (AMP)
If they hear and serve Him, they will end their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy.
If we can make what's important to God important to us, God will make what's important to us important to Him.
Think about Lot, Elisha, Joshua, and Caleb—servants who prospered as they served God's purposes.
#8 We Must Renew Our Minds Through Meditation
Joshua 1:8 (AMP)
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.
Psalm 1:2-3 (AMP)
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season; its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
Discussion Questions
- Seeking First: Matthew 6:33 calls us to seek God's kingdom first, promising that "all these things will be given to you also." What specific areas of your life are you trying to prosper in through your own efforts rather than by seeking God first? How would reordering your priorities change your approach?
- Purpose-Driven Prosperity: The message teaches that "God will prosper you to the level of your call" and "you will prosper to the level of your purpose." Have you clearly identified God's purpose for your life? How does understanding this principle shift your definition of success from worldly standards to Kingdom standards?
- The Servant's Posture: Job 36:11 promises that those who "hear and serve Him" will end their days in prosperity and joy. In what practical ways can you make what's important to God important to you this week? What would it look like to approach your work, relationships, and resources with a servant's heart?
- Obedience as Foundation: Deuteronomy 29:9 directly links prosperity with obedience to God's covenant. Is there an area where you know God is calling you to obedience but you've been hesitant or resistant? What's holding you back from taking that step of faith?
- Meditation and Transformation: Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2-3 both emphasize meditating on God's Word "day and night" as the path to prosperity and success. How does your current Bible reading and meditation practice compare to this standard? What would it look like to become "like a tree firmly planted by streams of water" through consistent time in Scripture?
