Access to Healing Through the Cross

PAID IN FULL - ACCESS TO HEALING THROUGH THE CROSS

Praise God for an incredible Resurrection Weekend-

  • In Part 1 - we learned about our debts being paid
  • In Part 2 - we learned that we were set free
  • In Part 3 - we learned we have all access

Review:

Part 1

Colossians 2:14 (AMP) 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross.

Part 2

Romans 6:6-7 (AMP) 6 We know that our old self [our human nature without the Holy Spirit] was nailed to the cross with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. 7 For the person who has died [with Christ] has been freed from [the power of] sin.

Part 3

Hebrews 10:19-21 (MSG) 19-21 So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into "the Holy Place." Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The "curtain" into God's presence is his body.

Today's Message: Paid In Full – ACCESS TO HEALING THROUGH THE CROSS

Many people view Jesus' death solely as a means of salvation from sin, but the cross also gives us access to healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Jesus' suffering was not in vain; it was intentional, carrying the power to bring restoration to every broken area of our lives.

The Foundation: By His Wounds We Are Healed

1 Peter 2:24 (AMP) 24 He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross [willingly offering Himself on it, as on an altar of sacrifice], so that we might die to sin [becoming immune from the penalty and power of sin] and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you [who believe] have been healed.
  • Definition of Immune - not susceptible or responsive, having a high degree of resistance to a disease, marked by protection
  • Why is this critical? Penalty - Sin leads to sickness, disease, and death

The Connection Between Sin and Sickness

Deuteronomy 28:58-61 (AMP) 58 "If you are not careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, to fear and honor with reverence this glorious and awesome name, the Lord your God, 59 then the Lord will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. 60 Moreover, He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. 61 Also the Lord will bring on you every sickness and every plague which is not written in this book of this law, until you are destroyed.
Romans 5:12-14 (AMP) 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death spread to all people [no one being able to stop it or escape its power], because they all sinned. 13 Sin was [committed] in the world before the Law [was given], but sin is not charged [against anyone] when there is no law [against it]. 14 Yet death ruled [over mankind] from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who had not sinned as Adam did. Adam is a type of Him (Christ) who was to come [but in reverse—Adam brought destruction, Christ brought salvation].
  • Salvation and healing go hand in hand
Psalm 103:2-3 (AMP) 2 Bless and affectionately praise the Lord, O my soul, And do not forget any of His benefits; 3 Who forgives all your sins, Who heals all your diseases;
Jeremiah 17:14 (AMP) 14 Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, For You are my praise.

Cleansing and Healing

1 John 1:7-9 (AMP) 7 but if we [really] walk in the Light [that is, live each and every day in conformity with the precepts of God], as He Himself is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another [He with us, and we with Him], and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin [by erasing the stain of sin, keeping us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations]. 9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].
Hebrews 10:14-18 (AMP) 14 For by the one offering He has perfected forever and completely cleansed those who are being sanctified [bringing each believer to spiritual completion and maturity]. 15 And the Holy Spirit also adds His testimony to us [in confirmation of this]; for after having said, 16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their heart, And on their mind I will inscribe them [producing an inward change]," He then says, 17 "And their sins and their lawless acts I will remember no more [no longer holding their sins against them]." 18 Now where there is [absolute] forgiveness and complete cancellation of the penalty of these things, there is no longer any offering [to be made to atone] for sin.

Isaiah's Prophecy: He Carried Our Sorrows

Isaiah 53:4-5 (AMP) 4 But [in fact] He has borne our griefs, And He has carried our sorrows and pains; Yet we [ignorantly] assumed that He was stricken, Struck down by God and degraded and humiliated [by Him]. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed.
Psalm 147:3 (AMP) 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].

Our Victory Through the Blood

Revelation 12:11 (AMP) 11 And they overcame and conquered him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, for they did not love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death.

Conclusion:

Jesus' death wasn't just about forgiveness—it was about total restoration. The same cross that brought salvation also brought healing. Because of Jesus, we don't have to stay in brokenness; we have full access to the healing power of God!

Discussion Questions

  1. 1 Peter 2:24 says "by His wounds you have been healed" (past tense). If healing was accomplished at the cross 2,000 years ago, why do believers still experience sickness? How do we reconcile this tension?
  2. The notes define being "immune" as having "a high degree of resistance" and being "marked by protection." What does it mean practically to be immune from the penalty and power of sin?
  3. Deuteronomy 28:58-61 and Romans 5:12-14 connect sin with sickness and death. While not all sickness is caused by personal sin, how does understanding this connection help us appreciate what Jesus accomplished on the cross?
  4. Psalm 103:3 says God "forgives all your sins" AND "heals all your diseases." Why do we sometimes emphasize forgiveness of sin but downplay or doubt physical healing?
  5. Isaiah 53:4 says Jesus "has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows." This includes emotional and mental pain, not just physical sickness. How does knowing Jesus carried your emotional pain change the way you process grief, anxiety, or depression?
  6. The message states "salvation and healing go hand in hand." If someone accepts salvation but rejects the possibility of physical healing, what are they missing about the full work of the cross?
  7. 1 John 1:7 says "the blood of Jesus...cleanses us from all sin." If unconfessed sin can block healing, what role does ongoing confession and repentance play in maintaining health (spiritual, emotional, and physical)?
  8. Hebrews 10:17 says God remembers our sins "no more." If God has completely forgotten our sins, why do we often remember them and allow guilt to affect our mental and emotional health?
  9. Revelation 12:11 says we overcome "because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony." What is "the word of your testimony" regarding healing? Have you declared what Jesus' stripes accomplished for you?
  10. The conclusion states: "We don't have to stay in brokenness; we have full access to the healing power of God." What area of brokenness (physical, emotional, spiritual) are you currently tolerating that you need to access healing for?
