His Questions
Rules of Engagement - His Questions
Rules of engagement are procedures that are put in place so that everyone knows what is expected and can work best together as a team.
Questions every man should ask themselves
1. Is it your desire to be married, but it's not everyone's
1 Corinthians 7:7-9 7 But I wish everyone were single, just as I am. Yet each person has a special gift from God, of one kind or another. 8 So I say to those who aren't married and to widows—it's better to stay unmarried, just as I am. 9 But if they can't control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It's better to marry than to burn with lust.
• Jesus never married
• John the Baptist
• Elijah
• Apostle Paul – at least for the better part of his life • Nor did Jeremiah
Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP) 11 For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,' says the Lord, 'plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 16:1- (NLT) 1 The Lord gave me another message. He said, 2 "Do not get married or have children in this place.
Warnings from the Bible
Proverbs 5:1- 11, 20-23 (NLT) 1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel. 2 Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you've learned. 3 For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil. 4 But in the end she is as bitter as poison,as dangerous as a double-edged sword. 5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. 6 For she cares nothing about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn't realize it. 7 So now, my sons, listen to me. Never stray from what I am about to say: 8 Stay away from her! Don't go near the door of her house! 9 If you do, you will lose your honor and will lose to merciless people all you have achieved. 10 Strangers will consume your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor. 11 In the end you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body.
20 Why be captivated, my son, by an immoral woman,or fondle the breasts of a promiscuous woman? 21 For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. 22 An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. 23 He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.
Judges 14:1-3 (MSG) 1-2 Samson went down to Timnah. There in Timnah a woman caught his eye, a Philistine girl. He came back and told his father and mother, "I saw a woman in Timnah, a Philistine girl; get her for me as my wife." 3 His parents said to him, "Isn't there a woman among the girls in the neighborhood of our people? Do you have to go get a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?"But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me. She's the one I want—she's the right one."
Provers 6:25 (AMP) Do not desire (lust after) her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelashes.
QUESTIONS EVERY MAN SHOULD ASK HIMSELF?
1. WHAT'S HER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
MATTHEW 22:37 (AMP) And Jesus replied to him, "'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'
2. DOES YOUR MOTHER APPROVE?
GENESIS 24:67 (AMP) Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
3. IS SHE ACTING LIKE A WIFE?
PROVERBS 18:22 (AMP) He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
4. DOES SHE FIT YOU?
GENESIS 2:18 (AMP) Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him."
5. IS SHE PRUDENT? CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE
PROVERBS 19:14 (AMP) House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.
6. IS SHE YOUR CROWN? DOES SHE MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD?
PROVERBS 12:4 (AMP) An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.
7. ARE YOU YOKED EQUALLY?
2 CORINTHIANS 6:14 (AMP) Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
8. WILL SHE SUBMIT TO YOU?
EPHESIANS 5:21-23 (AMP) 21 being subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as [a service] to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as Christ is head of the church, Himself being the Savior of the body.
9. DOES SHE RESPECT YOU?
EPHESIANS 5:33 (AMP) However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
10. IS SHE WISE? A BUILDER?
PROVERBS 14:1 (AMP) The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.
11. DOES SHE LOVE TO ARGUE?
PROVERBS 21:9 (AMP) It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.
12. IS SHE VALUABLE?
PROVERBS 31:10 (AMP) An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.
13. HOW DOES SHE TALK TO YOU?
PROVERBS 31:26 (AMP) She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
14. IS SHE FRUITFUL?
PSALM 128:3 (AMP) Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
15. IS SHE HEALED FROM HER PAST?
16. IS SHE STABLE?
JAMES 1:8 (AMP) being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].
Discussion Questions
- Several biblical figures (Jesus, Paul, Elijah, Jeremiah) never married or were called to remain single for a season. How can men discern whether God is calling them to marriage or to remain single for His purposes?
- Proverbs 5 gives strong warnings about immoral women. In today's culture, what are the modern signs of the "immoral woman" described in this passage? How can men guard their hearts?
- Samson's story shows the consequence of choosing a wife based on physical attraction alone ("She's the one I want"). What does this teach men about the danger of making relationship decisions based primarily on looks?
- The question "Does your mother approve?" references Genesis 24:67. Why is a mother's perspective valuable in choosing a wife? What should a man do if his mother disapproves?
- Proverbs 19:14 says "a prudent wife is from the Lord." What does prudence look like in a woman? How can a man recognize whether a woman is prudent and forward-thinking?
- The question "Is she your crown?" comes from Proverbs 12:4. What does it mean for a wife to be a crown to her husband versus bringing him shame? How can this be observed before marriage?
- Proverbs 21:9 warns about living with a quarrelsome wife. What are the signs during dating that reveal whether someone is contentious or peaceful? Why is this so important for long-term marital happiness?
- The question "Will she submit to you?" is often controversial today. What does biblical submission actually mean, and why is mutual submission (Ephesians 5:21) mentioned first?
- Proverbs 31:26 says a virtuous woman "opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." How does the way a woman speaks reveal her character? What should men listen for?
- The last two questions address healing and stability. Why is it crucial that both partners are healed from their past and emotionally stable before entering marriage? What are red flags of unhealed wounds or instability?
